Jimmy Sartain Obituary
Jimmy Dale Sartain, a faithful servant to the Lord, was called home November 22, 2019, while at Somerfield Rehabilitation Center in Brentwood, TN. Jimmy Dale was born June 2, 1943, in Water Valley, MS. He was living in Nashville, TN, at the time of death.
Jim loved the state of Mississippi and lived in several towns growing up. Water Valley, Calhoun City, and Houston nurtured him and influenced him in many ways. A talented trumpeter, Jim excelled in band in high school and college. Jim was a graduate of Houston High School, Delta State University, and New Orleans Theological Seminary. After Seminary graduation, Jim served churches in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. While serving as pastor, he led in successfully planting a new work in Brazil along with a new church plant in South Tipton County Tennessee. He was certified through the Family Seminary Department of the SBC to lead in marriage enrichment training. He was blessed to be able to serve in various positions for the Southern Baptist Convention during Senior Adult Chautauquas, Family Enrichment Conferences, and Marriage Enrichment Conferences. He also worked in many different positions on an Association level where he pastored.
A faithful, loving husband and father, Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Betty O'Neill Sartain. Married for 54 years, their family includes two children. Lillian Marie Sartain, deceased, and James Micheal Sartain, who is married to Beth Pinner Sartain and lives in Nashville, TN. Parents of the deceased are Lillian Pope Sartain and Dale Sartain. Grandparents are Hiram Russell Foster Sartain, Sr., and Pearl Johnsey Sartain. Maternal grandparents are Donnie Bennett Berry and Grover E. Berry. His brother, Jack Sartain, who is married to Judy O'Neill Sartain, lives in Water Valley with his two daughters, Jennifer Dean (Nat) and Jill Todd (Curtis) and their five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brentwood Baptist Church located at 7777 Concord Road, Brentwood, TN 37027 on Friday December 6, 2019. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 2:00pm in the parlor. The service will be held next door to the chapel.
