Angela Doughten Obituary

Angela Lynn (Chapman) Doughten, 56, of Nashville, TN, was made whole again in Heaven on November 6, 2018. She was healed there, instantly, after 4 decades of mental illness, and a 2010 stroke that robbed her of her mobility and necessitated continuous nursing care. Angela was preceded in death last year by her caring and devoted husband of 36 years, Max Weldon Doughten, who spent many of his last years in patient and loving companionship with the bride of his youth. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Willie Petty Chapman. Angela was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Charles G. Doughten; brothers-in-law Charles Greg Doughten, Jr. and Terry Ray "Bubba" Doughten; and sister-in-law Sherry Fay Doughten.

She is survived by her brothers, Tony R. (Darlene Arterburn) of Antioch, TN; brother David (Mary) Chapman, of Goodlettsville, TN and their children Michael and Lea Chapman, mother-in-law Mary Finney Doughten, brother-in-law David (Mary) Finney; as well as 6 nieces & nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Raised in a loving Christian home, Angela was a graduate of Antioch High School, known for her good grades and voracious pleasure reading. In her twenties, severe and persistent mental health diagnoses cut short hopes for meaningful work and children, but their East Nashville yard was often populated by fluffy, well-loved cats.

In her lifetime, Angela enjoyed writing stories, poems, and songs, watching country and Christian music videos, faithful church participation, creating art, and singing while her husband played drums in a family band. The massive stroke took her away from her comfortable home, and she would often tell loved ones that she longed to go heavenward, home to Jesus, and to be healed, at last, in His arms. She was welcomed there by Max, her parents, and many others she'd missed and longed to see. She can now walk again, and her mind is completely clear. Most of all, she is joyously basking in the presence of Jesus, her Savior, whom she'd clung to faithfully through all life's travails.
