Robert Elmer Simpkins of Nashville, TN passed away April 27, 2017 at the age of 83.
Robert was born in Nashville on May 14, 1933 to the late Willard Elmer Simpkins and Margaret Lucille (Duke) Simpkins. He is preceded in death by his late wife Mary Evelyn (Williams) Simpkins and his infant sister Bettie Gene Simpkins.
He is survived by 2 sons, Randy (Jan) Simpkins and Roger Simpkins, and 4 grandchildren.
Robert was raised on a farm in Smyrna, TN. After leaving the farm, he became a tile setter for Singer Brothers Tile Company in 1950, where he worked until he was inducted in the Army on May 27, 1953. After boot camp, he was sent to Korea where he served first as a radio operator, then later drove the company water truck. After his separation from the Army in May, 1955, he returned to tile work until May of 1961 when he was hired by Ford Motor Company at the Nashville Glass Plant. He retired from Ford in June 1991. He enjoyed working on just about anything, gardening and fishing, but most of all he loved his family.
He is and will continue to be sorely missed, as he missed his lifelong love Evelyn, these last few years.
